IN HONOR OF Lynn Bitzer and his ongoing battle with leukemia, I am training for and participating in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, a 26.2 mile run, on May 15, 2011 to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). I have teamed up with Thrivent Financial to raise money for LLS. For every $3 we raise, Thrivent adds $1. How about you? Can you provide some financial support on Lynn’s behalf to help find a cure for this dreaded disease that strikes about 20,000 people per year? Please make your checks payable to “Thrivent Financial for Lutherans” and include “Steve Shaub/LLS” on the memo line. Just drop your check in the offering plate and together we’ll find a cure for blood cancers!!
PRAYER SHAWL COLLECTION: St. Paul Women of the ELCA plan to collect, label and send shawls donated between now and the end of May, to the Eighth Triennial Gathering of the Women of the ELCA in Spokane, Washington. The shawls will be given to ministries in the host synod—the Eastern Washington-Idaho Synod. Forms that give specific details are available in the narthex at the Women of the ELCA kiosk or you can call Nancy Weiss at 626-0994. (This collection is in addition to, not in place of, the St. Paul Prayer Shawl Ministry.)
TOOTHBRUSHES NEEDED: The North Lancaster Conference of the Lower Susquehanna Synod is collecting toothbrushes for making health kits at the Synod Assembly. They have to be individually wrapped adult toothbrushes. The conference goal is 300. A box has been placed on the information table in the Narthex. Thanks!
CRAFT NIGHT Tuesday, May 3rd: First of all, I want to thank everyone who came out for our last Craft Night. We completed the 25 "Tooth Fairy Tins" that we will be selling at our Bazaar in November and they are so cute. ThisTuesday, May 2nd, we will be putting together "Busy Cases" for the Bazaar. They should go fairly quickly so we should also be able to make some "Thank You" cards that we will be giving to the office for use by St. Paul. If we have time to get several cards made per person you may also take 1 home with you. Please consider coming to the Lounge at 7pm so we will have plenty of help. I am certain that it will be a fun time for everyone attending.
ST. PAUL BREW CREW will be going to Bube’s Brewery on Monday, May 16th. We will meet at the church at 6:00 p.m. to carpool, or meet at Bube’s at 6:30 p.m.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! A big thanks to all of those who made Holy Week and the Easter celebrations such a meaningful worship event. Lay assistants, acolytes, musicians, choirs and volunteers who worked and shared their gifts.
