Announcements for the week of January 30th

1/30/2011

Augsburg Adult Bible Class: This class is open to all adults and meets in the church lounge at 9:30am on Sundays. The study is entitled "Assuring Hope".

    Today: "Healed by His Bruises"
God introduces the servant who is called to suffer on behalf of others in order to fulfill God's mission of bringing salvation to all.

Feb. 6: "Jesus is the Messiah"
Jesus is God's promised Messiah, but a new kind of Messiah. Jesus came not to be our earthly ruler and king, but to give himself so that we might live. Peter was surprised, and so are we.

Men's Bible Study/Breakfast will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 7am at Brickerville United Lutheran Church. All men are invited to join in the discussion and to enjoy some breakfast also. Activities usually wrap up between 8:30 and 9am.

February Circle Meetings: a special offering will be collected for Building Blocks of Hope Women and Children in Poverty Program.

"Souper Bowl of Caring": Today in the social hall at noon. Please join us for a wonderful, warm soup luncheon. Admission is a money donation to World Hunger and/or non-perishable food items for our community food bank. Event sponsored by our 7th & 8th grade confirmation class.

Women of the ELCA Book Club: The next book club discussion is on February 3, 2011 at 7pm in the church lounge. The book, "A Thousand Sisters" by Lisa Shannon is the true story of how one woman can make a difference. The author had a good life. Then one day in 2005, an episode of Oprah changed all that. The show focused on women in the Congo, the worst place on earth to be a woman. Shannon felt called to do something....and she did. Join the discussion with this newly formed group of St. Paul Women. Book purchase will be on your own. A sign up sheet is in the narthex.

Save the date...February 26: St. Paul's Community Bingo will be held on Saturday, February 26th at 12:00pm in the Social Hall. Proceeds will benefit both St. Paul Community Nursery School and St. Paul's Youth Mission Trip.  Please join us for food, games, prizes, and fun! Tickets will be on sale beginning in February. Snow date will be March 5th. If you are interested in donating food items for the Bingo lunch to help the youth with their Mission Trip fund, please check the Youth Activities kiosk for details and a sign up list. Thank You!

Prayer Shawl Collection: St Paul Women of the ELCA plan to collect, label and send shawls donated between now and the end of May, to the Eighth Triennial Gathering of the Women of the ELCA in Spokane, Washington. The shawls will be given to ministries in the host synod - The Eastern Washington-Idaho Synod. Forms that give specific details are available in the narthex at the Women of the ELCA kiosk or you can call Nancy Weiss at 626-0994. (This collection is in addition to, not in place of, the St Paul Prayer Shawl Ministry.)

Due to Renovations the St Paul Circle at Luther Acres meeting spot will move from the Music Room to the Hershey Activity Room beginning with the February Meeting. The date of the meeting is Wed. Feb. 2 at 1:15pm. The presenter will be Marsha Campbell and there will be a special offering for Building Blocks of Hope.

Crafters will meet on Tuesday, February 1st at 7pm the lounge and will be making making "tooth fairy tins" for this year's bazaar. If you can use colored pencils, scissors and tape you can help make these!

The home will be built in Lancaster. Everyone interested in learning more about this program or helping support the build is invited to join us on February 19 at 10am for our Kick Off Event to celebrate the award and plan for the construction of the house.
