Announcements for September 23

9/21/2012

NEEDED: MISSION LIFE TEAM LEADER. Tasks include monitoring ELCA and Lower Susquehanna Synod websites, informing the congregation of major mission themes in the ELCA and LSS, help support our sister congregation, Kanga Lutheran Church and the Konde Diocese.  Make suggestions as needed for the Christian Service Box.

INGATHERING SUNDAY, October 7th, is always special as we strengthen our ties to Lutheran World Relief.  It is always gratifying to see the work of our blanket makers.

THE ENDOWMENT COMMITTEE will be accepting requests from the congregation, committee chairs and church council for funds from the annual distribution from the Endowment Fund.  This year there is a form available on the church website, www.stpaullititz.net.  It is under “membership information-endowment”.  Forms are also available in the church office.  All requests must be in the church office by October 15th.  For additional information, contact Troy Wingenroth, Endowment Chairperson, 627-2111.

DURING THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, we will be collecting funds for the Quilt & Kit Shipping Fund (formerly called Project Comfort) to help pay for shipping costs of Quilts and Kits to be distributed to people in need by Lutheran World Relief. Envelopes can be found in the narthex. Thank you for supporting this project.

THE WOMEN OF THE ELCA Book Club will meet on October 4th at 7 p.m. in the lounge.  The book selection is Linda Fairstein’s “Silent Mercy”.

PERSONAL CARE KITS (formerly called Health Kits) will be collected during September. During the October 7th church services, these kits will be blessed, then packed and sent to Lutheran World Relief. A list of the items to include in a kit is posted on the Women of the ELCA bulletin board in the narthex. Please take a list, follow the steps to make a kit and put the finished kit in the container in the narthex marked "Personal Care Kits." Thank you for your generous help with this project.

STEAMTOWN NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE TRIP: Saturday, September 29, Lynn Bitzer and Jim Millhouse are planning this trip.  They will meet at the church and leave promptly at 7 a.m. for those who would like to car pool or follow in their own vehicle.  For those driving directly to Steamtown, we will meet at the main entrance at 9:45 a.m.  For more detailed information about Steamtown, please visit their website.  If interested, there is s sign-up sheet in the Small Groups sign-up book (under trips/outings) in the narthex.

BREW CREW will be going to the Fireside Tavern in Strasburg on Tuesday, October 2nd.  We will meet at the church at 6:00 p.m. to car pool.  The reservation is at 6:30 for those who want to go directly to the restaurant.  The address is 1500 Historic Drive in Strasburg.  There is a sign-up sheet in the sign-up book in the narthex.

12th ANNUAL ST. PAUL GOLF TOURNAMENT is Friday, September 28th at 12:30 p.m. at Lebanon Valley Golf Course, Myerstown.  Men and women are encouraged to play!  $30 per person, 4-person scramble (blind draw).  Please see sign-up sheet in narthex for more info.  Deadline is September 24th.

OCTOBER CRAFT NIGHT CHANGE: Due to a health related issue, the Felt Hot Pad class is being rescheduled for next March.  On Tuesday, October 2nd, we will now be working on making Garden Labels to be sold at our craft bazaar. This is a very simple craft that anyone will be able to help with. You can see a picture of the label on the sign-up sheet in the Narthex. Please feel free to join in the fun of creating these cute and simple labels.

ITEMS IN NEED OF A NEW HOME:  We have two 24-inch TVs, and several DVD players and VCR’s.

ACT BOLDLY envelopes which were distributed on Sunday, Sept. 9, can be put in the offering plate or in the jar in the narthex.  These donations will go to LWR to defray costs to ship blankets, personal care kits and school kits.  If you need an envelope, there are extra ones on the table with the collection jar.  Contributions can be made until the end of September.  Checks should be made payable to St. Paul Women of the ELCA.

HELP IS NEEDED to sew blanket tops.  There is a designated plastic tub in the narthex which contains patches to sew blanket tops at home at your convenience.  Directions to sign out packet(s), a bag to put packets in and directions to sew and return completed tops are provided.  Any questions, call Sue Long or Nancy Weiss.

CRAFT SHOW registration forms are available on the table outside of the church office and on the kiosk in the narthex.  Registration will be open to returning venders from now until the end of September, and on October 1st will be open to new venders if there are tables left.  Register early!

MEN’S BIBLE STUDY & BREAKFAST will be held in the social hall here at St. Paul on Saturday, October 6th from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

PENN STATE GOSPEL CHOIR, “Essence of Joy” will be coming to St. Paul on Saturday, October 13th at 7 p.m. to perform a free concert.  We are one of numerous stops on their fall tour.  We also will be housing these young folks in our homes following the concert and will return them to St. Paul to get on the bus Sunday morning.  If you are interested in housing one (or two, or three) of these fine musicians, please contact Melodie Fair at 626-1876, or fairs@ptd.net.
