Announcements for April 28

4/25/2013

ST. PAUL BLANKET MAKERS are once again in need of sheets and cotton material. There is a plastic tub in the narthex marked "cotton material and sheets" for these donations.

THE WOMEN OF THE ELCA "Courtyard Tea" at Sugarplums & Tea has been cancelled due to lack of interest.

THROUGH SEPTEMBER WELCA is still collecting the large juice cans with the top and bottom cut off.  Place in the bin in the narthex.

LCO SEMINARS: In hopes of encouraging growth and strengthening the ministries of it’s member congregations, LCO (Lutheran Community Outreach) has planned a series of seminars on topics of general interest to all congregations.  The remaining seminar is: Stewardship, May 19th 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.  St. Paul Lititz.  Anyone interested is encouraged to attend, to share your ideas and to learn from others.  If you have questions, see Joe Doster, Gayle Stauffer, or Pastor Gable.

SYNOD FORUM:  Zion Lutheran, Manheim, will host a forum TODAY from 2:00-3:30pm on the election of a new bishop for our Synod, and other issues which will come before this year's Synod Assembly, such as memorials and resolutions coming from all the Conference Assemblies, the issues related to funding for Synod ministries, and other issues. The forum will be led by a member of the Synod Council and is open to all members of our LCO. Participants will hear more about the process of electing a bishop including having the chance to discuss the entire list of names of the potential nominees named in Conference Assemblies.  These names and biographical material are available on the Synod website. For more information please contact Zion's office at 665-5880 or zionmanheim@dejazzd.com.  Here is your opportunity to participate in that discussion right here in Manheim with a member of Synod Council.  No reservations needed, refreshments provided, open to all - even non-Lutherans.

PAVILLION UPDATE: Thanks to two very generous bequests from members of our congregation, we are now ready to move forward with construction of a Pavillion in the rear of our church. Construction is due to begin around the end of April, and should be ready for use over the summer. Les Jackson Construction (the same contractor that did our window replacement project) has won the bid to do the work. Look for pictures or updates in the Narthex shortly.

CONSIDER BEING A ST. PAUL GARDEN GROUP MEMBER! Just an hour of your time once a week will brighten the ten gardens in front of our church. You can adopt a garden and work at it on your own time or meet with other members on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm, beginning May 14 or Saturday mornings from 11am-noon, beginning May 18. Come with gardening gloves, your favorite tool and a sprinkling can. It's fun to work together and satisfying to see beautiful flower beds. Sign up now on the narthex kiosk!

AS PART OF THEIR VISIT TO THE KONDE DIOCESE this July, John and Linda Bell will be spending a weekend with our companion congregation, the Kanga Lutheran Church.  The purpose of this trip is to facilitate communication and understanding between the two congregations.  During that time, the Bell’s will be meeting with the leaders of the Kanga Congregation to learn about their most pressing needs and to bring back that information so that our congregation can determine how best to assist them in meeting these needs.  We will be having a special offering on May 19 for the Bell’s to take with them and give directly to the Kanga Congregation.  Please prayerfully consider your contribution remembering that Konde Diocese personnel consider the Kanga Congregation to be one of the poorest in the Diocese.

THE MEN’S BIBLE STUDY and breakfast will take place on Saturday, May 4th at St. Paul Lutheran Church social hall in Penryn.  We get started with breakfast at 7 a.m. followed by a Bible study usually wrapping up between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.

THE WOMEN OF THE ELCA BOOK CLUB will meet June 6th at 7 pm in the lounge to discuss Dr. Eben Alexander's best seller, "Proof of Heaven", which is a scientist's case for the afterlife.  The book is available on audio and in paperback.  All women of the church are invited to attend and join in a lively and stimulating discussion.

THE NEXT BREW CREW will be on May 21st at Iron Hill Brewery in Lancaster. Meet at the church at 6:00 p.m. to car pool.  There is a sign-up sheet in the sign-up book.  We will be going to Sly Fox in Phoenixville in June, the date is yet to be determined.

SPRING PROPERTY clean up and mulching will be on Saturday May 4th. We will start working at 8 a.m.. Bring your rake and shovel and see you Saturday morning. Questions contact Kyle Hipple 575-4307.
